Releasing the genius and ambition of the individual woman*

Womentum is a group of inspired women in Jackson, Wyoming, who practice “action philanthropy,” and believe that this is best achieved through a network of enthusiastic, talented, committed women. To make the greatest impact on women of this small town without duplicating powerful efforts of other nonprofit organizations, Womentum offers a unique mentoring program, Womentoring, to create systems change for the involved women and the entire community.

Womentum Leading Lady Melissa Turley is sworn in as the only woman on the Jackson Town of Council in January 2007.

Drawing women together with the spirit of philanthropy and teamwork, this program creates a cumulative impact exponentially greater than what each person could make individually.

Beyond Womentoring, Womentum offers events and educational opportunities for the general public to increase knowledge and awareness of today’s women’s issues.  In March 2007, Womentum hosted a sell-out Women in Leadership lunch and panel discussion in Jackson, featuring Marie C. Wilson, who has been a leading advocate for women’s issues for the past 30 years.  In May 2008, Womentum partnered with The Nature Conservancy to host the inaugural Women’s Conference on Sustainability, which began a dialog among women who are working toward environmental sustainability through the arts, science, conservation, faith, communications and politics.

*The first woman Governor elected in the United States, Nellie Tayloe Ross, Governor of Wyoming from 1925-1927, said when she lost her bid for re-election that every four years she voted the Democratic ticket, but every day she voted for the release of the genius and ambition of the individual woman.
